There are so many little day trips you can do from Salzburg. But even before coming to Salzburg, we had this one in mind. It took a bus, a train and a boat to get here – a little over 2 hours.
Hallstatt is the perfect postcard town. We lucked out with snow and sunny weather. The town is so quiet. It’s perfect. In the winter I think the majority of the tourist attractions have shut down. They usually have a cable car to the top of the mountain for a lookout point and across the lake (where the train drops you off) there’s even hiking trails and an ice cave to explore. But even though it was winter with not much to do, walking the little town was peaceful, not too much tourists! It’s definitely just a day trip town.
